Today is the day for our vet checks. All of the dogs had their breakfast and were sporting their flashy new collars. The girls got hot pink, while the boys got neon green. All engraved with their names on them!
We loaded them all up, connected the trailer and made our way downtown. We had to stop at Staples to copy some of our sheets, I missed that when I was organizing my documents.
We arrived at Northerm Windows, the place that was hosting the Vet Checks. We made it there by 11:00, even though our appointment wasn't until 2:00pm. We went to give Randy a hand, since he was on his own and had no help. His dogs all scored pretty good with minor issues. The vet that I was holding dogs for was a real asshole. He made snarky remarks and gave dirty looks to whoever spoke to him (or who didnt say anything at all)!
Once Randy's dogs were all checked out we decided to go to BPs for some lunch. I ordered so much food… I figured I better eat as much as possible before the race!
We made it back at the checks just in time for my appointment. You had to be there a half hour early so they could install the bracket for the spot tracker.
The vets that were doing my dogs seemed very nice. Randy helped out with my checks while Terrance organized which dogs went in and out. The Quest Officials said that I should get the award for most organized with my documents! At least I was organized in one way!
All of the dogs checked out good, most of them were over 60 pounds. The only one that didn't score so well was Hickock. He lost a bunch of weigh travelling and isn't a heavy eater, so if I don't get a bunch of weight on him by race day he might not go.
After our vet checks were all done we went and washed the trailer. It was pretty dirty! Then back to the cabin we went!
We got all the dogs out, made up their meals and put straw down for them to sleep. It's good practice for them to "camp" outside. Little did I know that the weather network app lied to me. It said it was only supposed to drop down to minus 16 over night. (When reality it dropped down to minus 40 with the windchill).
I got ready for bed, did one last check on the dogs and before I knew it, it was lights out!
